Maths- We have been learning halving numbers by sharing equally.

Maths- Name, identify and make 3D shapes.

As part of our Spring Term Topic of ‘Animals’ and ‘Cold and Hot places’, Year 1 went on a school trip to Bristol Zoo! Before heading to the workshop, they saw some amazing African penguins and seals. At the workshop, the children met a Polar Explorer lady who took them into a room full of artefacts and animal fur. They also saw different animal body parts such as a Walrus’ tusks, a Narwhals’ tooth and a real, preserved polar bear who died at the zoo.  After that they watched a video about Emperor penguins and enjoyed imitating how to look after their eggs in the freezing Antarctic weather. After eating their lunch, the children went to see many other animals including lions, gorillas, monkeys, flamingos etc.

Year 1 had great fun watching all of the animals, especially the gorillas and monkeys who were very amusing!

Science: Animals including Humans.

This term we are learning about the main animal groups. We discussed the names of common animals in each group and thought of other animals that fit into each group. We used the sorting hoops to place the animal pictures into the correct groups: mammals, amphibians, insects, reptiles, fish and birds.
