Celebrating the Liturgical Year

The Liturgical Year at Our Lady of the Rosary

Our Lady of the Rosary Feast Day

In October we celebrated our school feast day and also welcomed all the new pupils and staff to our school, in particular our Reception Class.  We also prayed for our Year 6 who left in the summer, that they are enjoying the new adventures in their education and faith journey. The Chaplaincy Team  prepared the Mass and led the readings and the offertory.

Harvest

We celebrated Harvest with a wonderful assembly from Year 3 linked to CAFOD and how we can help others who are not as fortunate as ourselves.

Christ the King

To celebrate this feast the School joined the Parish for the Sunday Mass. The pupils from Our Lady led the singing and it was lovely to have the support of so many families and for past pupils to join in the singing.  Thank you.

Advent Mass

Year 3 led us in our Advent Mass helping us to prepare ourselves as we wait for the promised one.

KS1 Nativity

We had two wonderful performances from our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes as they retold the story of Jesus birth and how special he is to us in our lives. Pictures can be seen on the class pages.

KS2 Carol Service

As this takes place in the Season of Advent we began our Carol Service listening to a reading from a prophet in the Old Testament.  We stop and think about the promise that God would send his son, the Messiah, to save us.  We then journey together as we share the story of Jesus' birth through music and Scripture.

Epiphany

We celebrate the feast of the  Epiphany with a wonderful assembly led by Year 2.  Pupils dressed up as Wise Men and shared their special story.

Ash Wednesday

Year 4 led a special Ash Wednesday Mass and Father Cosmas explained the meaning of the ashes and distributed these. The children reflected on what Lent means and how they can grow during this season.

Holy Week

In the last week of Term 4 we have daily assemblies where we remember the last days of Jesus life.  Year 3 will by remind us about the meaning of Lent,  Year 4 will re-enacted Palm Sunday, Year 5 Maundy Thursday and Year 6 will lead us in the Stations of the Cross.

Resurrection Mass

When we return after Easter, Year 5 will lead us with a Mass to celebrate the Resurrection.

Crowning of Mary:

In May we dedicate the month to Our Lady, Mary. We begin with a special assembly in the school hall where we remember her and significant events in her life crown a small statue of Mary.  The whole school then processes to the Church garden and we gather together for a short reflection as we lay flowers at the Our Lady statue.  Below is our photograph from last year.

Pentecost

Year 1 will lead us in our Pentecost Mass with lots of wonderful dancing.

Corpus Christi

The Chaplaincy team will prepare and lead the Mass for the School.

First Holy Communion:

Our pupils prepare for their Holy Communion in their different parishes, Our Lady, Sacred Heart and St Anthony's and these take place in May or June.  The school choir sings at the Our Lady of the Rosary Holy Communion Mass and teachers attend the other Parish celebrations.

Afterwards we have a special Class Mass for Year 3 where the pupils may wear their Holy Communion dresses and suits. They invite Year 2 to this Mass and share their journey towards the sacrament of Holy Communion.

St Peter and St Paul

Year 6 lead the Mass for this feast day and also celebrate their own faith journey as they prepare to leave our school.
