The school has an expectation of attendance in school in line with statutory regulation and the descriptor of attendance in an outstanding school as shown in the Ofsted handbook.
‘Pupils value their education an rarely miss a day at school. ‘
Attendance for the past three years:
Year 2012/2013 2013/2014 2015/2016
Attendance (OLOR) 95.9% 96.1% 95.9%
Attendance (Bristol Primary Schools) 94.8% 95.6% 95.2%
Attendance (England Primary Schools) 95.0% 95.6%
The school tackles persistent absence rigorously and uses outside agencies to support in getting children into school when they have low attendance.
It is rare for the school to grant planned absence in term time. Certainly it is not granted for family holidays or family celebrations. At times of family difficulties, then the discretion of the headteacher can be used to authorise absence from school.
We contact parents on the first day of absence from school. Whilst we accept that children can be unwell and unable to attend school, we reserve the right to ask for evidence of doctor’s visits, dentists’ visits and actual illness in cases where pupils have repeated absence from school.
Our aim is to work closely with families to ensure that all children have the best possible chance to be in school and to succeed.
