Celebrating the Liturgical Year

The Liturgical Year at Our Lady of the Rosary

Each year we celebrate:

Our Lady of the Rosary Feast Day - 7th October

Year 4 lead us in a special Mass celebration. Our Collective Worship also focuses on the different mysteries and the meaning of the Rosary. We have a beautiful display showing the Holy Rosary:

Celebrating Harvest

Each year, we have an assembly (led by an external speak, e.g. CAFOD representative or Bristol North West Foodbank representative) to remind us of the importance of looking after our brothers and sisters in the world, particularly those who do not have enough to eat (Catholic Social Teaching Principles: Option for the Poor and Vulnerable and caring for the Common Good). We support our local Bristol North West Foodbank by bringing in lots of food and sharing it with them.

Advent Mass

We begin Advent with a whole school Mass in church led by Year 3

EYFS and KS1 Nativity

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 retell the story about the birth of Jesus. All parents are welcome to attend.

KS2 Carol Service

Pupils from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 retell the story of the nativity through a service at Our Lady of the Rosary Church. All parents are welcome to attend.

Epiphany

Each year we celebrate this either by going to Mass or a special assembly led by our Chaplaincy Team.

Candlemas

A special assembly is led by Mrs Musarurwa.

Ash Wednesday

Our Ash Wednesday Mass will be led by Year 5. It will help us to reflect on the importance of Lent and how we can make a difference to others.

Ash Wednesday and Lent explained in 60 seconds. With LEGO!

Lent and Holy Week:

During this week, Year 4 will re-tell the story of Palm Sunday, Year 5 will re-tell the Last Supper and Year 6 will lead us in the Stations of the Cross.  These are very special liturgies and bring us together to celebrate our faith before the Easter holidays.

Crowning of Mary:

In May we dedicate the month to Our Lady, Mary. We began the month with a special collective worship led by Year 2.

Pentecost:

Each year we have a whole school Pentecost celebration and liturgy outside. Each class shares some of their RE learning and Year 6 act out the Pentecost story for us. We end our celebration by singing happy birthday to the Church.

First Holy Communion:

Our pupils prepare for their Holy Communion in their different parishes, Our Lady, Sacred Heart and St Anthony's and these take place in May or June.

Corpus Christi

We have whole school Adoration and Benediction to celebrate this feast day led by our Chaplaincy Team lead. Mrs Musarurwa and Mrs Culley then lead a class session of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our chapel area.

Feast of St Peter and Paul

Our Year 6 lead us in this Mass and we remember, as it is the end of their time at Our Lady of the Rosary, how special they are and the foundations we have given them as they prepare for secondary school.
