Online Safety

Online safety is essential for every primary-aged child, and as parents you play a key role in helping them stay safe while they learn and explore online.

Start by setting clear, age-appropriate rules about screen time, what sites and apps are suitable, and when devices can be used.

Encourage your child to speak to you if something makes them feel worried, uncomfortable, or pressured, and reassure them that they will not be in trouble for telling you.

Check privacy settings together, use child-friendly search and content filters, and remind your child not to share personal information such as their full name, address, school details, passwords, or photos.

Be mindful of online communication too—teach them to never respond to messages from strangers, to block and report any concerning contact, and to keep passwords private.

Finally, stay involved by talking about what they are doing online, praising responsible choices, and agreeing simple routines such as using devices in shared areas and charging them overnight away from bedrooms.

Together, we can help our children develop safe, confident habits for a digital world.
