Living Lent

This Lenten time each class has spent some time learning about the season of Lent, Holy Week and the Easter story as we were unable to come together for our usual Collective Worship. Each class produced some artwork that they have shared in this video:

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 4th March. It was fantastic to see so many children dressing up at home and at school. Your costumes were brilliant!

We had a Zoom meeting in each class to share our costumes and take part in different activities. Some of the children took part in a quiz and learnt about different authors. Lots of us listened to stories and talked about our favourite books.

Each child received a £1 book token which you can find on the School Story on ClassDojo. £1 book tokens can be swapped for one of the new World Book Day books or used to get £1 off some books. You can find out which books are available here.

Thank you parents and carers for your support. Here are some of the photos from the day!

Children’s Mental Health Week

From 1st – 7th February 2021, we are taking part and encouraging children (and adults) to explore the different ways we can express ourselves, and the creative ways that we can share our feelings, our thoughts and our ideas.

During these challenging times, our children and young people’s mental health has never been more important.

When we express ourselves we don’t have to be a great artist or a wonderful dancer. It is not about being the very best at something or putting on a performance. It is about encouraging each other to find lots of different ways to get creative and EXPRESS OURSELVES.

The charity ‘Place2Be’ asked us to ‘Dress to Express’ where the children express themselves through their clothes, hair, etc. We enjoyed wearing lots of bright colours to express ourselves.

Thinking Interdependently Challenge Morning

We have introduced our new Habit of Mind called Thinking Interdependently. We are learning how to work together and ‘think interdependently’. The children have discussed what it means and what strategies they can use

to help them work together successfully.

During the challenge morning we had 5 activities to complete: these involved finger painting our Habits of Mind logos; completing the counting challenge; building the tallest tower that can hold a bean bag; and other problem solving challenges. We thoroughly enjoyed practising our skills of working together in a fun and exciting way.

For our Thinking Interdependently logo, we chose some bees as they are very good at working together to make honey!

Here is a prompt sheet for parents:

Can you work well in a team and think interdependently?

National Virtual Work Experiences Christmas Challenge Competition

Congratulations to Isla in Year 5 who won the National Virtual Work Experiences Competition! She won a £100 Amazon voucher for her thoughtful response to Father Christmas's problem of how to deliver presents across the world in the middle of the Pandemic. We are very proud of her hard work and pleased she has some extra Christmas spending money!

Well done also to those who took part: Jenson, Ruth and Sion who received a certificate.
